SoundStation2W Battery Pack Recall (for units sold between December 2007 and May 2008)

Note: This recall pertains only to units sold between December 2007 and May 2008.

In cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, Polycom is voluntarily recalling certain battery packs supplied by Polycom’s battery pack vendor for use in Polycom’s SoundStation 2W wireless conference phone. The recalled battery packs were sold with both the 12 hour talk time/non-expandable and 24 hour talk time/expandable SoundStation2W models. The SoundStation2W wireless conference phones with recalled battery packs were shipped to customers between December 1, 2007 and May 2, 2008 in all worldwide regions. The following is a list of worldwide SoundStation2W conference phone Part Numbers and SKU numbers potentially affected by the recall:

In addition, the recalled battery packs were sold separately as replacement battery packs and may have also been provided in response to service calls.

The recalled battery pack Part Numbers and Date Codes are as follows:

The battery packs have a black or white plastic coating and a white label with the following title: “RECHARGEABLE Li-ion BATTERY.” The date code is located in the lower left corner of the battery pack label and the part number is in the upper right of the label as depicted in the photograph below:

 

If your battery pack does not include one of the four date codes listed above, it is not affected by this recall and is safe to use.

Polycom has received one report of a battery pack overheating and causing minor property damage. This recall does not affect any other SoundStation or any other Polycom products. As a precaution, Polycom is instructing consumers worldwide who have a battery pack from one of the affected date codes to take the following action:

1. Remove the battery from the unit immediately:
    
   
   Please note that after you remove the battery pack and replace the battery plate, your SoundStation2W wireless conference phone can safely be used when plugged in to the AC adapter/charger module originally provided with your SoundStation2W conference phone. Customers should only attempt to use battery packs in the unit that are supplied by Polycom and are not from the date codes affected by this recall.
   
   IMPORTANT: Do not discard the battery pack as you are requested to follow the instructions below and return it to Polycom upon receipt of your replacement battery pack.
   
   
2. Please fill out the SoundStation 2W Battery Return Form with your name, shipping information, and the serial numbers of your SoundStation2W conference phones, or call one of the following numbers:

   Polycom will send you a replacement battery pack free of charge for each SoundStation2W battery pack that you own that includes one of the date codes affected by this recall. Please expect 4 to 6 weeks for delivery of the new battery pack. As mentioned above, your SoundStation2W conference phone can be safely used on AC power during this time.
   
   
3. After receiving the replacement battery pack, simply place the old battery pack into the shipping box, attach the included pre-paid return tag, and ship the box accordingly. It is critical that these battery packs are recycled properly, so please return the old battery pack to Polycom. The battery packs should not be used with any other product.
